my .02, I suggest you buy an Under/Over 12g and get some 410,28 or 20ga inserts for it if you want your young fella to learn with it (personally i would just use light 12g loads)
Autos have their place but I don't like having to pick up my empties whilst everyone else buggers off to the next stand or such.
Lighter guages are good but often dad give his son a light 20ga (cause its easier to use / lighter weight) then buys the heaviest loads he can to compensate for being a 20ga and the think boots more than a 12 as its much lighter. This can have all sorts of negative effects on your lad / ladess'es shooting
Also no messing round unloading when crossing fences, meeting other hunters etc, just open the action (if its not already ) and you are safe and everyone can see that.
Not sure about the whole instant choice of 2 different chokes as I generally have 2 the same in,
12ga ammo is generally cheaper and more available as well. If you shoot clays then generally gun clubs can sell you ammo cheaper than your local H&F
