Best way to mount an optic on a shotgun rib

Has anyone tried mounting a red dot sight on a shotgun rib? Is it worth the effort?

I like the idea of being able to adjust the sight to shoot slugs. Ideally I'd like to be able to shoot out to 100m.

I looked at "Rib Rider" mounts for red dots, but wound up not getting one. I've seen some neat pictures of ribs with dovetails cut in and a folding 10/22 type rear sight installed.

Depends on the shotgun, ribs are hard to do properly like the sako clamp mounts, never trusted mine, so got it drilled etc
My shotgun came drilled and tapped , factory, perhaps trade or sell yours then buy one factory prepared.

Hi Viz made a three dot set of sights that mounted on dovetails/ replaced front bead. these work great, and as very lightweight no issues with mounting strength.

I’ve an Arredondo rib mount on my old 3-gun shottie with a C-More STS.

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

Most modern repeating shotguns have brazed or spot-welded ribs which may be OK, but some of the earlier guns (pre 1970) will have soldered ribs which will probably let go under recoil with an optical sight. A largish front bead and a receiver mounted ghost ring is much faster and pretty accurate to 100 metres with slugs.

    Thanks to those that replied.

I forgot to mention in the OP I have a stoger with two barrels. I'm keeping the 28in as is and plan on getting the 24in cut down. So I dont want to mount anything on the receiver as it will be in the way with the other barrel.

@Sh00ter no mate, brought it in from the US years ago with some 12 gauge speed loaders and stuff. Ralph Arredondo had a web store, may still have, for IPSC/3-Gun goodies.
