I think any test regime has to be good - teaching your dog and seeing what he has retained is good for both handler and dog --to not have any sort of competition tho will never push one to be the best or better than they can be .We are not all competitive -Iam -but even if you dont win you can evaluate and work forward from there
Tweed or not to Tweed that is the question

Im more interested in the natural abilty of a dog not what the handler teaches it, the finishing of the dog can be done later on

Flag the roar Wirehunt you can do that any night of the week if you do the dishes and vacuum
Go to the test .What I would like to know is it an ongoing test that is run that you keep going to ? I still think competing and showing off what is learnt puts you more under scrutiny to become better as when you see other excel you aim higher --maybe they do

Flag the roar? Are you fucking insane???? Had to last year and there is no way in hell it's happening two years in a row.

It is ongoing, look just go become a member, it's only $10 a year.

Oh crickey, El B, competition?...does the dog actually know he's competing...he sure as heck will when he is up against some wily old campaign veteran rooster...how about running your dog up on the high country after chukar...if he isnt pushed there he never will be...I am not against people running their dogs in competitions, in fact I think it is kind of fun, but to say that a hunting dog is never pushed, never at his limit, etc unless he is in a competition just does not make sense...if his owner is prepared to do the yards behind him, the hunting dog is tested every hunt...and if that hunting dog has a profound prey drive, he is pulled to his limit...

edited to add...and his runs are not going to be 15 minutes...they will last as long as you and him can walk!!

I mean a competition where dogs are compared to one another .Dogs are always pushed on the hunting field but its great to compare yourself to other teams to see where you are actually at .
