Thread: Deer dog

No reason a lab won't be as good or even better than a versitile . No expert on the subject but my dog (GSP) only walks on heel and indicates buy scenting mostly , ie head up and smelling continuously . Only points when in view of a deer . My dog is a Not a deer dog , but has helped indicate deer I would have walked past . They are deer hunkered down in scrub on tops , and screes .
I'd say try train him to a standard that any hunting requires . Heel , stop ! Down , etc . If you nail that home . You go nothing to loose .
