    Staining stripped antlers

Hey just shot a nice fallow buck I wanted to mount with his velvet on but after the shot he took a good fall and started peeling his velvet as he fell . So not really being a huge fan of staining them I know it looks great but I was hoping for a more natural look but I can't really do anything now but stain it so I was wondering has anybody before ever sanded the high knobs and smoothed out the tips of the antlers like they do naturally on trees etc to get a more natural antler look before staining . And if you have done so what did it turn out like . Any ideas would be much appreciated
