    Pistol safe query

Just working toward my B cat and was wondering

I have a 6mm long gun safe with an internal lockbox.
Will this suffice for a pistol safe, or do I need a seperate secure storage.

The safe is secure within a room of stout construction (concrete and solid core door).

    Thanks in advance?

I have the same question too; mine is seperately lockable.

I don't see why not as long as it has the right lock, (7 pin if I remember correctly)
One thing I got pulled up on was bolted to the concrete floor in the middle of the room with nothing to lever against was not a pass. They want two surfaces. They are keen on security cameras and alarms as well.

As long as the long gun safe meets B-Cat specs its fine. Don't have to keep A and B cat separate

    Thanks.
How can I tell if it meets B cat specs.
Does it need to be labelled as such?

Police approval of an individual’s security is decided on a case by case basis following inspection. So it seems. 6mm steel construction seven pin lock attached 'stoutly' are pretty much the guidelines.

I have not been able to gain a pre approval from the arms officer, they say they will decide upon inspection, your arms officer may be different. My observations are that there is a lack of consistency in regards to this.

Talk to your local arms officer. If should also say in the specs of your safe, what did it list as being suitable for when you bought it?

Built my own one of 6mm steel and has two 5-pin Ross locks

Two internal boxes locked separately, one stores pistols - the lock to that is just a cupboard latch type lock but it's lockable

Fixed to floor and 2 walls in corner

Had for over 10 years and had B-cat for I guess 6 years? and no problem with police inspections

Fair enough, talk to the arms officer-chances are they'll be the ones inspecting it.

6mm is only in the recommendations, the wording of the arms act is considerably more vague,

If locks in a way is can't be pried open and is of 6mm plate there should be no issues, it's more of a concern how it will be fixed into the house,

The fixing systems you got green lit for an A cat might not be enough for the B.

If you can fix it back and down and to the side in a way you can't get a flat bar in you should be golden.

I have a 6mm Rifle Safe from when we had E-Cats and it has Passed All Inspections. And No you do not need to keep them in the separate internal lockbox. If it is 6mm it is Compliant. End Of.
