Yes, the human pupil only dilates to a maximum of 7mm with a few rare exceptions greater than that. However, I doubt whether there would be too many middle age people who's eyes still dilate to 7mm....

Something to consider; with an 18" barrelled 6.5 CM there is a fair amount in velocity loss compared to an 18" .308.

I have a carbon fibre stocked 24" Tikka 6.5 CM which I use unsupressed for more open country with 120gr-140gr bullets. I can easily get 2,900 fps with 143gr ELD-X with RE26 but don't and usually run...

You could of course wrap the barrel in tape and use a lightweight bedding compound or fibreglass filler like Bondi with a good release agent. When cured sand out the top edges to remove any tape...
