   I have not shot reds but would use it in a heartbeat, the 30-30 smashes them so I’d load a 125sst or 150 sp and go for it up close

    The howa 300BLK is a ‘heavy barrel’ but because of that larger bore diameter it comes in at the same weight of the 223 mini lightweight. So if you shorten it it will be pretty compact
