You could try a "stock pack". Add foam till you get the hieght you want. Easy to swop between rifles. Relatively cheap and stops your stock getting dinged...

I use high density foam and vet wrap. Pretty agricultural but meh, it works.

I'm a foam and tape guy too. Cheap as. I just use duct tape, and pull a neoprene cover over it.
