Are you guys allowed to hunt using a semi-auto shotty with slugs? One with a 8 shot tube and red dot would be my pick for short range, high density deer/goat culls.

Moderators, like barrels, are ultimately disposable. I understand the importance of maintenance, and own a DPT mod, but I won't be stripping the thing down after every hunt or range trip. 187991

The best calibre/chambering is one which has a cheap and plentiful supply of ammunition. See a lot of guys building wildcat superguns but they rarely get fired, think Schwerer Gustav, looks great...

Not necessarily. You can have a 'heavy for caliber' (e.g 200 grain .30 cal) bullet made to be round nosed (tangent ogive), straight walled and flat based, and it's BC will be lower than a 168...
