Nathan F liked post by craigc On thread : Deer numbers
There’s plenty of them alright Nathan. I drove 15 minutes from my house last night and walked for two hours in some public land. I saw over 20 deer; unfortunately most of them on a farm that backed...

To hunt over in the Chatham Islands you pretty much either need to know some one or use a guide. There’s a couple of guides on the main island and one on Pitt Island. Im really lucky that both...

I’ve shot a tonne of deer, pigs and goats with my .284 using 162 Amax, I got a life time supply! If I was you I’d stick with them. When they run out the ELDX or ELDM should do the trick.

Moa Hunter liked post by craigc On thread : Subsonic projectiles, where are we at these days?
I’ve shot a reasonable amount of deer lately with the 300 blackout. Side on, front on and in the head. The subsonic load is no magic bullet and I’ve used .357, .44, .45/70, .308 and 300 AAC. The...

I wouldn’t use anything else other than pillow cases from op shops. I usually buy two or three every time I see a shop. Mates ‘borrow’ them and I always seem to need more. No matter what you use,...

Flyblown liked post by craigc On thread : Recent activity in the Central North Island
Culling has always been part of our country; it’s an essential part of environmental management. I’ve left two in the last month and didn’t feel guilty; there’s more deer today than in any of my 30+...

I went hunting with this good ole hunter over the weekend, tested him to the limit and I reckon he'll bat on to 100; at least. A narly grind in up out of one water catchment into the next. Even...
