Well done mate. Have really enjoyed your write ups as you have learnt more and more and shown it on the next trip

I agree with Backcountry Bob. In my experience have seen less of an impact in forest with a larger variety of palatable species in the understory. In Beech Forest with less feed, it seems to have...

Wanaka for me. Otago reds and chamois handy but only two hours to haast and the southwestland bush

It will be busy as everyone around the country also has their designated annual leave, but if you can get away from the huts or tracks, even just up a side valley, you'll have plenty of big open...

Used to be a favourite block of mine for a hunt during highschool. Haven't been there in years. Good to see still the odd animal poking around. Bugger about missing out on them in the end

You can't miss them in the RHA. As has been said, its over run. Will see 50 to 100 for a weekend trip without too much trouble. Just gain some height, find a decent vantage point and start looking.

This is exactly how I compare the two. Hunting on public land is something anyone can do. Theres nothing stopping anyone else having the same success as someone else apart from time and effort.

I find it hard to believe in. The sort of thing you hope and wish is still around, but the amount of apparent 'sitings' and still no photo in the current day and age is telling

I don't think you can call anyone a 'true hunter' over another hunter. I agree in the sense that after experiencing both types of hunting, private is far easier than public land hunting. For that...
