About DrM@wildernessEMC
Biography:
I was a GP, pre hospital care (like PRIME) and emergency department doctor for 25 years and then became paralysed in 2010.Not a spinal cord injury but a really rare genetic muscle membrane condition. If I eat the right things (no carbs, no sugar, no salt but lots of meat and veg) I am not too bad but even just warm weather or missing a meal can knock me for 6 for a few days. Needless to say I am not safe to work as a doctor, and only my husband and my best friends are brave enough to take me out in the wilderness in case I turn into a jellyfish and have to be carried out!
Location:
Christchurch
Interests:
Avalanche patient rescue, Management of accidental hypothermia ,Outdoor Pre Hospital Emergency Care
Occupation:
medically retired doctor

I carry 3 x sachets of the Celox when hunting with others or participating in team events such as driven hunts. I don't usually carry them when hunting alone because I doubt I could handle using them...

Hi Malin Really interested by what you talked about with the haemostatic agents as it is something i could potentially add to the first aid kit. Cheers Matiu

You can get Israeli bandages with hemostatic agent in them, they are probably the easiest to use. Also comes in powder sachets that you sprinkle on a wound. Have also come across a syringe that you...

What an excellent thing to do Malin. I am sure you will get a good response from our South Island membership. I am not an alpine hunter but would happily do the second part of the survey when you...

Done, be interested in seeing the findings. Potentially not just ask about plb but also Spots and Inreachs as these have live tracking functions aswell

Yes this is great. There don't seem to be any first aid courses specifically for solo hunters or remote groups where help can't be expected for a considerable amount of time
