Thanks for the advice guys. Ended up buying the Steiner Skyhawk 3 8x42s which 7.62 linked earlier in the thread. Got them for $450 and they seem to be worth about $900-1000 new so pretty happy....

Thanks all for the feedback and advice, bit the bullet and bought a welded hull 12ft Fryan with a 15hp 2stroke mercury. All seems pretty tidy and the boys are keen as to try it out tomorrow.

Yep they corrode and or loosen up and leak. Old ones can range from minor leaks to pretty constant bailing! Look for a newer welded hull version if you can.
