It's a 1:8 twist Thompson Centre Contender (single shot, light, accurate, poor man's kipplauf) so Oldbloke your advice is declined as "shite". I got the 150 BTSP Speers as advised by nor-west

Speer 150 grain btsp designed for impact speeds that you are looking at I.e. 30-30, 300 savage etc at intermediate range. And they are are Speer, so have good quality and consistency.

Mate Im in Kapiti, your welcome to drop in and Ill have a look. Does the bolt only close with difficulty when you've got a cartridge in the chamber? Or is it difficult to close on an empty chamber?

Should be awesome..similar to stuff,I loaded 125grn flatties in 30/06 for mate and he said great for goat decapitation. Fast your turning them into a varmits pill but slower your making a hot 30/30.

They look identical to the Speer 150gn soft points I have, with the top trimmed off - I should try that with the pulled ones that have a damaged tip... thanks for the inspiration. I just loaded some...

Make sure they feed out of the magazine. Sometimes the big flat hollow point can be problematic. They are an extremely accurate projectile. They can be very explosive if pushed much past...

I would just go and have a look pre roar just to see what signs around. at least that way you'll know not to waste the prime time if its a complete bust.

Tim I reckon you would struggle to get 2900fps with the 147 out of a 20” barrel, I’m getting 2852fps with Re26 (56gn) and 2217 was slower (2760@57gn) but a bit more accurate, as others have said the...

I had Stug's Mauser 9.3x62 before him and it is a very light rifle with open sights, I found it very mild to shoot with factory loads but I don't recall shooting it prone. I think it still had the...

I have some Norma factory 232gr ammo. And I think I’ve got some lighter Woodleighs from memory will need to check. Hate the idea of making a 9.3 rifle heavier…

Oh I do wish this wasn't so as a SMLE would be ideal candidate for 444 marlin or .45/70.44/40,44magnum single shot magless rifle... But I trust akaroa1 to know best.

You're overthinking it mate, the wee Howa .308 will be fine. We shouldn't get hung up on ft/lbs it should be what the low end in velocity for the projectile we are using is going to not be as...

Goats, not deer, so maybe different, but I often get in to the bush too early to find animals and often bump in to them on the way out. Animals have to be somewhere and in the middle of the day, the...
