In general as light as possible. Light gear will catch you more fish. I use a 1-3kg rod, 6lb braid mainline, 6lb leader. That said, I don't know that area, so if there's lots of snags, heavy river...

I have "hunted" and eaten turkeys in NZ. I just find their stupidity as a game animal quite astonishing.

Not helpful to the OP, but I use a "meat bag" and it goes in the washing machine on a cold water wash with no cleaning products.
