Question Anyone spearfishing round Auckland/Omaha 24th or 26th Dec?

Hey fellas, anyone launching from Omaha for a dive on the 24th or 26th of Dec and have a seat they would be willing to offer? Dying to get out while I’m up here from Chch. Happy to chip beers + petty. Got the new RA 120 carbon wanting first blood

Otherwise anyone local is welcome to join a shore dive mission 🤙🏼

If you're prepared to drive a couple of hours north (Parua Bay, Whangarei), I could potentially take you out to the Hen & Chicks on Boxing Day. It would have to be a very early start though, as in launching at first light re: weather. I am a spearo, but pretty shit at it, so happy to be boat person for the day.

Sorry been off the forum pretty well since that day.

So thanks to MB's offer, Russian 22. and I rendezvous in Warkworth at 4:00am. Meet MB 30min prior to agreed time so everyone was itching to get out there. MBs wicked new boat steamed out to the H&Cs easy as in beautiful flat conditions. We saw some boil ups on the way and actually kitted up then but decided to save it till we were at our destination.

Get there and its flat calm and we can see trevs boiling up on the surface at the pressure point of the rock. With my new 1200 Rob Allen I hop in and start kicking toward the fish. Was met with 20m visibility and the fish just multiplied as I worked toward the pressure point. Big schools of koheru were being rounded up by trevally and kahawai so I knew the kingies wouldn't be far away. After about 15min holding off on any other species, the kingies finally come in. A school of 10-12 good models come swirling around. I pick who I think to be the fattest and smack the spear in a good holding shot. With deep reef and awesome vis, it was a physical but simple fight until I have him in my arms. After an iki, bleeding, and gutting, I swim out to the boat to get him on ice. MB was stoked as when the I raised the kingie up. Had to hut off head just to fit him in the chilly.

After a few more trevally and snapper were caught on rod and spear we headed to the Hen to search some weedlines. I spent a lot of time doing deeper drops looking for a boarfish. I was presented one opportunity but unfortunately I didn't see it on the way down so the fish was swimming away once I had locked eyes on. Good to see one though, they're not easy to find!

Back on land at a reasonable afternoon hour with a chilly load of fish. Awesome day out, loved it
