    Good read footsore, you are certainly onto them so sooner or later you will nail a stag in the roar, success isn't always the way a hunt ends but you still have the memories of the hunt.

    On big recoiling rifles a little bit further forward isn't a bad thing but for the 308 you should have a full view looking through the scope with no head movement. My 338 Win Mag has scope mounted...
