Depends how far you are shooting and target size. For 100+ metre head shot rabbits, I don't think 18x would be outrageous. For shooting possums on a tree branch above your head, 4x should be plenty!

Find this funny. I always used to use 4x scopes on .22s. I've since switched to 2-7x variable scopes, mostly for the less magnification in the lower end for up close possums etc. So 4x magnification...

4 x 32 is probably the most common size .22 scope in NZ.

30 years ago, 4x32 was better than adequate on a hunting rifle, and 6x - 10x were used on sniper rifles... How our collective eyesight seems to has faded! :cool:
