   I go for leupold ringmounts when looking for a neat option in 11mm dovetail. Check ringalignment when mounted and then lap them in lightly - you won't mar scope tubes and no need for plastic inserts.

    I don't think I'd so the shotgun route when buying for someone else - choosing one to 'fit' correctly is a personal thing. If it doesn't fit he won't shoot well with it, and it won't really matter...
