takbok liked post by mountain_lunatic On thread : Advice for DIY tahr hunt for nonresident
Well I have lived in southwest Montana my whole life, and have been hunting and fishing with my family since I could walk. I've been hunting since I was 10 and have spent a lot of time chasing elk...

Four hundred yards is still a bloody long hunting shot.

takbok liked post by Shearer On thread : 7mm rem mag vs .300 win mag
I had a T3 300wm and rebarrelled it to 7mmrm mainly for less recoil in the light rifle (I don't use a brake or can). Both killed stuff real good.

takbok liked post by joelhenton On thread : Scope bell touching the barrel just (sometimes) should I risk it
Surely by doing that to your barrel it's dangerous? I've seen this before from a 300wsm in my gunsmiths workshop, in fact looking at the photo it might be this very rifle! Some guy brought the rifle...

Enjoying this thread that much has prompted me to join NZ Hunting and shooting forum! Why has 2506 not achieved fame in NZ?? Because it is inefficient and when / if you get into researching...

takbok liked post by bumblefoot On thread : How did you get interested in hunting?
A bit of nostalgia in another thread made me think about how I got into hunting..... For me it was a bit convoluted.... It was about 1976-77 (I was 13-ish) and mum went to New Plymouth for the day....

Agree. Don't really understand the half cock thing. Just use the safety on my Tikka.

takbok liked post by Ackley On thread : Best hold for ultralight rifle
I had been shooting dozens of rabbits with 17 Ackley Hornet and became very lazy with how I held the rifle. Because of nearly zero recoil was having minimal misses Then started shooting Sambar deer...

This is exactly what I have done with mine. Bipods are a pita to shoot well with lightweight rifles anyway. Surprising how well I can shoot out to 400ish even just with a 6 power

takbok liked post by mikee On thread : Best hold for ultralight rifle
I don't plan on using a bipod on mine. Having a bipod, and all the other stuff hanging off it like we usually do kind of defeats the point of a light handy rifle. I didn't buy a light gun so I can...

takbok liked post by chainsaw On thread : Best hold for ultralight rifle
Firm grip on the fore end, is my go to. But I’d same for ultralight or standard weight stocks, so maybe just me. Brake or suppressor will help with muzzle jump, but brake design (radial vs side...
