About uk_exile
Biography:
I'm not british. Its a username only! I'm a kiwi, born here, lived here 29yrs then due to work moved to UK late 1990s. Returned to NZ 2003. It was while working in UK that I chose my online username for all online stuff and have kept it ever since. It's not because of any connections or loyalty to UK. Have only been back once to UK since 2003 as part of an european holiday. Can't say I hated UK but certainly disliked the lack of freedom & was just there for work. It simply wasn't me or my happy place.

I have bought a few second hand rifles for very little money and they shoot fairly well, leaves money for the other things. I've also bought second hand optics that do the job well enough. Keep an...

Starting out there's nothing wrong with $400 vortex diamondback 10x42s. Or Leopold Yosemites. I started out with both and have never upgraded. I can still spot deer well beyond 1km away no prob,...

Setting up as a first time hunter is expensive. I wouldn't want to be doing it. I see no sense though in throwing $1500 down on a tikka when there are plenty of fantastic second hand rifles around...

I have a set of Barr & Stroud Sahara 8x42 bino's. Not the best around, but clear enough. They get the job done.

The reason I asked if you were hunting with others was hopefully they would have a good pair of binocs and rangefinder so you didn't need to splurge on them just yet.

7mm mag is a great choice for Canterbury tops hunting. If you do get a Tikka make sure you put a limbsaver recoil pad on it. Spend as much as you can on binoculars, they are what find you deer on the...
