   So not always practical, but if you have a miss like that, It can really help to pick a rock etc, and shoot as near the same shot as possible. Will tell you if it was a ballistic issue or a mistake...

   Just be sensible. The doc maps page shows most areas closed to hunting or shooting. If the trail is in an open hunting area, then use normal safety precautions.
