to me that would indicate them eating something that thins the blood and effects the lungs, rather than being shot but I'm no vet.

from memory they didn't go into great detail, it was highlighted as a problem for one of the large central Otago stations when they drive the stock back during early winter muster.
saw something on country calendar once and it said, younger sheep plus ragwort (I think it was ragwort) plus water will most likely end in death (Especially in early winter). well I think that's...
I could be wrong in assuming this but I don't think you would get 2800 with a 210gr projectile, if memory serves me I think the average velocity for a 175 -180 grain projectile in a 284 is 2600-2800,...
i have a number of spare mags for the norinco for sale, send me a pm and i'll cut you a special deal.
funny I know 4 of the service guys from that photo, I used to work with them back in my Airforce days
I would hardly call a mallard a pest animal. so far this year I would have shot 60 rabbits though.
I normally take my boots off when crossing the river, nothing quite like putting nice warm dry boots on after crossing that cold river. will have to head over and see if I can knock over a silly...
awesome job Mal, I've never had all that much luck in block 5, I prefer to hunt block 1 or 4. Sounds like there are plenty of animals getting around at the moment. the river would have been running...
is the battery new in them? I notice the range at which I can get a reading reduces as the battery gets older. having a steady pair of hands also helps with getting a reading on longer distances.
why not just make a venison ham?
I almost forgot I shot a 200 lb boar as well. yes I know its not a deer but I dont get the opportunity to shoot many pigs.
shot 7 in total this year, 5 fallow deer all hinds for the table, 2 red deer a hind for eating and an 11 point stag in the roar. freezer is getting low will try to tip another couple over before new...
I use topo maps I sourced for free in my 60csx, have a look on the net they shouldn't be too hard to find for the newer units.
it was a magic sight right up until it didn't fall over with my shot, I still to this day don't know what happened, I even checked the rifle barrel to see if the projectile actually left the barrel,...
there have been quite a few big heads seen and shot down that end of the mountain over the last couple of years, with any luck you will get another shot at him next year with a new years growth on...
hard luck Dino but awesome write up, I'm wondering if the buck you saw was the same big buck i saw in the next door block a few months back. The one i saw had a very impressive set of head gear but...
as expected no block in Waikaia for the roar this year, maybe next year will be the year. got to get one at some stage last time I got one was 2001.
i'll need it
with any luck i'll get something in the mail tomorrow, not expecting to get a block though.
isn't it strange that last year when it didn't cost anything to apply for a ballot block, that the results were out quicker than this year.
still waiting, i'm sure they will send something out soon, after all I am paying for them to do this.
nothing in the mail yet, must take a while to write those hard luck letters.
in my mind it really depends on the deer species and the abundance of animals, I wouldn't shoot a Fallow deer for dog food but have shot Sambar specifically as dog food. At the end of the day if you...
i've been asked for my permit while out hunting, well when I got back to the truck. they were doing a bit of a blitz on people hunting without permits on the blue mountains a while back, well that's...
