Sounds like I’ll have some experimenting to do with lubed and un-lubed wads
I’m aiming for some lighter loads, not quite cowboy level but still want to be able to shoot critters without issue. ...
Did you find lubed wads pattern better?
I was contemplating using a lube cookie to add to the stack height rather than lubing the wads themselves, I suppose its more down to each gun,
I don't...
Priced out some felt, the 9.5mm I priced was 11 cents per wad, the 12.7mm was 15 cents per wad, the ballistic products wads look to be around 5 cents per wad, using 6mm cork works out to 3 cents per...
For overshot cards you can use cereal boxes or similar, printed side is normally water resistant as a bonus
Damned right about the cheap punches, grabbed a set from the tool shed and they were rusty out of the box and blunt as anything, they’ll be going back when next I go into town,
Looks like felt will...

Those wads look quite good, is that all from felt?
Did you cut them with a hollow punch or something else?
Did you know what they charge for the felt, don't seem to have any luck...
Cork is another option for sure, where abouts are you getting your cork tiles from? It seemed kinda expensive from my quick google around, didn’t find anything thicker than 6mm
They seem to be all over the place in size, ballistic products wads are .740” for 12 gauge, they seem to be the most common wads I’ve seen.
Will have to go larger again one I move to brass hulls...
I'd be interested to see how that turns out, I had no luck with the hole punches I brought, but they were cheap nasty ones, couldn't even get a clean cut out of paper or card, let alone anything...
Looks like I'll need to track down a tool, those wads look fantastic compared to what I managed to get with the hole saw, even with the hole saw I'd need a strange size like 23mm to get 18.5-19mm wads
Ive got some lanolin and beeswax sitting around waiting to be made into lube for 44/40 but figured I'd play with the shotgun first sounds like it'll be useful here too,
How are you cutting wads...
Many thanks,
From what I've found I should be aiming for 0.710" for winchester hulls, but .750" for cheddite and then .760 for magtec brass (which I dont yet have)
That makes sense, Guess ill try that for now and see if I can make any useful wads that way.
The stuff I've got laying around is 25mm thick which is what im using for experimenting have around 4 square meters of it, can always cut and/or stack wads where needed I guess,
Forgive my...
Seems like you can still buy pinex tiles (https://revivebuildingrecyclers.co.nz/products/pined-tiles) , I've got some board similar but its quite a pain to cut and comes out at 17mm with the same...
Howdy,
I'm just about to start loading up some BP shotshells but am getting stuck trying to make some decent fibre wads, closest I've had to success so far is a 22mm hole saw into MDF (I think)...
