    I know that when the bullets "pop through the sound barrier as they drop from super sonic to sub sonic, then the pressure around them induces a wobble and they "re-stabilise" into a steady trajectory...

    My understanding of the lighter lower / heavier...

    My understanding of the lighter lower / heavier higher was as the barrel lifts in angle with recoil, the lighter bullet is out of the muzzle faster and the heavier one is in the barrel fractionally...
