If your referencing his latest thread then yeah probably, hes a GC:D
No worries mate. I can definitely see the irony, that 308 would have done the job for sure.
Haha, yeah that's a good point. We're extremely spoilt for choice!
Haha yeah got very close to that a few days ago. It is what I'm leaning towards at the moment
Exactly. Also my I don't want to have to remove the muzzle brake on my 7mm mag when bush stalking or scrub hunting. Very easily missed opportunity. The zero would be different too.
FYI, I have 243AI already. I'm not interested in keeping a variety of guns, want one gun to do it all. Shearer
That 308 wasn't what I wanted to use long term, I'm allowed to be fussy, it's part of...
A well respected guide i know was using a standard 243 for all of his wilderness tahr hunts. He's (his clients) shot in excess of 50 mature bull tahr with that 243, longest shot was 370 from memory....
Great thoughts Nick! Think you're on the money there
^ Yeah thought about the Finnlight and slapping a CF stock on it. Good idea. I'd probably stick with Leupold simply from receiving such exceptional warranty service jakewire
Tbh its more the fact that the 2x scrub bulls i had lined up were enormous and old.. got the shakes/nerves. Combination of that and spiked heart rate can make a challenging standing shot.
Nah mate won't chop the RM, will keep original. Anything else would make a good option
It isnt often that I need to do an offhand shot, that is only one issue.
- big bulky scope
- want to bring weight down
- requires a suppressor or muzzle brake to be manageable (for me)
- I...
Learnt a few tricks with trophy photos while I've been guiding;) but still a challenge to get a decent shot when youre solo!
Agreed yes. I'm more of a spot n stalk style hunter, not much of a bush hunter. Not ideal having a muzzke brake when doing the odd standing shot.
Point was more that the rifle setup isn't that...
Sold that 308 to a lucky member! May flick the 7mm and start considering calibre options next..
^ Awesome thanks for the feedback Shearer
^ Haha yeah its a big indepth topic for sure. A lot of it is very situational as you said
yeah exactly. I'm no long range hunter thats for sure. Far prefer getting at least within 500 which makes me feel like 7mm isn't really necessary
Awesome that's what I was hoping to hear. My only concern was not being confident that a 260/6.5cm would be adequate for my needs.
Yeah good thoughts. I cant cut the barrel on a sako carbonlight, that wouldn't go down well haha. Prefer to sell as original
Meaning a 143gr out of a 260 compared to a 162gr out of a 7mm mag
Hey team,
I'm basically a self taught hunter and still (and always will) have a lot to learn in all areas.
I'm currently shooting a nice Carbonlight 7mm mag with a big 3-18 VX6HD scope. This...
