I understand, but think its more likely that a semi-custom high production maker like BR have a better idea and experience of "proper Rockwell" than small scale custom producers.

Any half decent steel should be up to doing a complete bone out of a deer in the field without touching the edge, and D2 can do that. The risk of a chip on a stone...

Ah. Thats a powder steel not unlike CPMD2 and a different beast to D2.
CTS XP is a goody too, and similar. I have a knife in that and am impressed.
I have never had much time for D2. Difficult to sharpen and chippy. But plenty of people seem to like it.
