Finally got around to getting out with this rifle again. Ran out of Robs 270gr hp, so switched to 250gr SWC lead projectiles, behind 7.5gr of trailboss. Stalked onto a clearing and a pheasant flushed...

Well I haven't done any hunting for a while due to a bad back and waiting for an op. Last couple of weeks it's been OK so went for a lazy walk with the dog and tipped over a billy at 30m. Shot hit...
Yeah mate, agreed. I'll dial the range back to 50ish yards and persist. Early days yet. Plenty of supers good to go aswell.
Load sorted, 7.5gr trailboss, 270hr cast HP 1000fps. Went for a hunt, lined up on a mature Sika hind at 115yds, looked to be a good hit, good reaction from the hind. Tracked for ages In heavy rain...
Well she stabilizes factory subsonic 44 special and Robert's 270gr cast lead hollopoints. A couple of 1 and 1.5inch groups with trailboss at 40yds so things are looking good.
Rifle back suppressed witha DPT suppressor. Very short and handy, currently have a Bushnell trs-25 mounted but, may swap it out for my propoint or sig sauer, as the dot is alot bigger than the stated...

They look perfect Rob, can't wait for mine to turn up.
Yeah mate that's the plan, thinking of cutting back to 17, which removes 6 inches of barrel. Planning to get a DPT but would need to pick one up or get someone to drop it off as getting the paperwork...
So this is the base rifle for the project, will add photos as I go. Not going to go quite as short as Moa Hunter still want to retain the fore end.
Awesome all very encouraging, what's the approx velocity with AP70 and is it hard to source?
Cheers that's good to know, yes twist is a bit on the slow side, shoots 240gr factory ammo very well. Robert has said the 270's should be fine at subsonic velocity.
So with us all being in Lockdown, boredom has set in and I've decided to turn my Rossi 44 magnum into a Sub gun. Plan is to cut the barrel to around 16 -17inches so the suppressor is just off the...
