Can you talk about why you prefer the bigger stuff these days? Extra range? More emphatic results? Thanks.
Curious - how many folk here use a .223 as their main deer rifle? I've used them to good effect before, but always feel I need to have something heftier in the locker too.
I suppose there's a bit...
Anyone in or near Palmy got an R8 I could grope and fondle for a few minutes? I will bring tissues..
Thanks
I'd like to see that - got any pics?
Sticking with the Sako theme for a moment... a dirty old .243 Lefty I picked up the other day... this one is sure to be a safe queen. The only thing I cannot resist is temptation....

Thanks Sideshow, if its quick and easy, I would appreciate it. Cheers, and thanks for the info supplied.
And here was me thinking google knew everything...
Can anyone tell me the tenon thread designation for the old BSA actions?
I have an action coming at some point, and some barrel blanks...
Very sad news - a true stalwart of the firearms scene in NZ for so long. Thoughts go out to Amanda and family.
Can't see any real need for expansion with a .430 cal. projectile. I have stacks of wheel weight lead so I suspect I will go heavy / hard / large meplat. All that said, I can't see too many animals...
I can't see myself using subs in hunting settings. They would be for shits and giggle only - close range probably. Thinking I might go for 300gr hard-cast for hunting. At close to 2000fps, I can't...
Hope to use it as a gp 0-200 lightweight everything gun. Further out I will stick with the 7mm08 barrel, but I will probably suppress it and load subs as well as full-house stuff for the roar. Scope...
Na mate the .444 is usually 1/20 (though the Microgroove Marlins were 1/38"). Folk are using 300-400gr no prob in 1/20. Not so the 1/38"!
Thanks for that. Will PM you when I get setup.
Yeah I have heard the Microgroove system wasnt ideal for cast. Fortunately the TC Encore is a 1/20 twist standard rifling barrel. Fine for cast or jacketed.
.429 - .430 normally. Same as a .44 Mag. Jacketed projectiles need to be of stronger construction than .44 Mag to stay together on game @ 2200ish fps vs. 1600ish fps for the Mag.
I have a 444 barrel on the way for an Encore.. interested to see what molds you are using in the 260 - 300gr range.
Also interested in data for jacketed as well. Cheers.
I recently got a case stuck in a Hornady FLRS die, and to compound the problem, broke the head off the case. I do not have the specific tools to fix the situation so I puzzled over a fix....

Thanks for that
Looking for the above for comparative purposes.
Happy to pay + postage. Appreciate it if anyone could oblige. Thanks
Anyone know of a gunsmith here in Shakey that has a 7x57AI reamer?
I know improving on perfect is a pipe-dream, but I have my rationale.... :-)
Cheers!
Have you checked for concentricity? What seating die are you using? I see Berger themselves recommend using a seater with a stem designed specifically for vld projectiles - to prevent 'bottoming...
