I pulled the trigger and got a 243 barrel not long after this post in 2022, bit of a thread revival here. Mate of mine shot one deer with it and now looks like it'll be turned into a 6.5x55 :XD:
Man that WHACK! is deafening on impact.
I see where you're going, and I do have a load developed with 120 VMAX for this rifle and most of a box of them on the shelf. But I've wanted a 243 for about a year and finally decided I would have a...
This is what I enjoy about reloading, big time, tinkering, trying things that people say won't work etc. It's fun, even when they are right ha ha.
Exactly, variety is the spice and so on.
Yeah something like that would be amazing, but as you say incredibly expensive and hard to come by.
If after a while I feel like I'm not getting enough out of the 243 I'll start looking for...
More wallop than the lighter bullets :D
I've still got the barrel, rifle is off the market now as the 243 barrel will go on it. I've got the big 7mm mag for way out long and this will be for...
1 in 10 twist was what I went for, should be optimal for the 90 ELD-X and 95 berger classic I'm hoping.
I'll see how I go tracking down dies once the barrel is on and will be in touch if needed...
Thanks Ruger7mm I'll keep that in mind, I'll see how the next couple of weeks progress getting barrel on etc
Thanks Bill999 you're a gentleman and a scholar
Hoping for more whallop slightly further out and better sd but I see your point, may end up dual loading yet.
Yes shot placement is key, I'm more in favor of the more forward shoulder shot, has...
I'll start getting some components together once I've got dies sorted, that may not be for a week or two though. Once I pay for the barrel and then later it arrives, I'll get some photos of the...
Thanks 55six that would be an amazing rifle but with my Scottish heritage shining through I'm looking to spend as little as possible :D
Right I've made the call, 243 it is.
Thanks I'll keep that in mind, if I could get hold of a Tikka pre fit barrel and a set of dies I'd be laughing. Hopefully have something sorted in the next few days either way.
Yeah that's good to hear, it's pretty much where my thinking is at now.
What model? I haven't looked very hard at the Remingtons
I have been and still couldn't decide, finding a rifle to start with would be the challenge for the 6 man bun, then brass and dies.
Yeah I get what you're saying, but do I need to get the most out of it? Probably not. From what people are saying, the 243 will do what I want to the range I want with a 10 twist.
:XD: I hope they all had trigger locks on :P
I don't see how that's relevant :XD:
I'm bi caliber curious if that helps?
Yeah that it is a concern about the 6.5 creampuff, they're around at the moment but for how long.
Plan is to buy a factory rifle, building costs too much:oh noes: That being said there aren't many...
I'm having a change up and don't want to have another one anytime soon. Trying to decide between 243 and 6mm creedmoor.
243 been around longer, plenty of factory rifles chambered but pretty much...
