Random phone calls from somebody or other from said government department does not constitute law. Who was this person, what is their authority, if any, and are they who they say they are????
Just because they said something doesn’t make it so. They are making shit up as they go along and should be ignored. If you keep jumping every time they say jump you are setting precedents and they will continue the practice. Police have a long history of acting outside the law without pushback and they will continue to do so if you allow it. Time and time again they sucker a few in with their insidious unlawful behaviour.

I see considerable amount of over reaction from this kind of shit but by all means publicise it and keep the awareness up for everyone.
Having had firsthand experience with this, your very first go to, as suggested previously on other posts is to record the time, date, and name of the caller and then politely but firmly request clarification in writing of said policy and and its reference to the relevant part of the Firearms Act and request any further communication to be in writing only.
They cannot be trusted, not matter how amicable they may seem, so just cover your ass when dealing with them. Any solicitor will tell you this.

because when you remove the brass cases it becomes just a jigsaw of funky shaped bits of pressed metal..I think its more a case of they were so commonly about the show that to now require them to be permitted is just bizzare AND without a M60 etc to use it in...its never in a million years going to be harmful or dangerous

Spoke to you earlier about you Browning cloth ammo belt.

I have had our armourer look at this and he has advised that they are not prohibited.

That's like saying when you take the ammo out of a magazine it's just an empty metal box though... I get that they are plentiful and it's a big job to round them all up etc but I just don't see why people think they are any different to a magazine, exactly the same function in a different form.

The intent behind the law is pretty obvious, but as usual they should have been a bit more specific.

I might have wires crossed but was picturing the pressed metal links rather than a material belt....and at what point do the pressed metal links..become a belt/magazine ???2 links...20 links.....4 links ASSEMBLED ????

Is a disintergrating link belt a magazine ? When it doesnt contain cartridges it is simply a pile of individual links

Back when the Prohibited Magazine crap became law the Police clarified that MG belts were not 'magazines' and were exempt.

This is a juicy one. The Arms Act doesn't define what a magazine is. It does define what a prohibited magazine is (Section 2B) but this is on the basis of certain characteristics of the magazine without defining what is considered a magazine.
It does recognise the existence of magazine adapters, magazine couplers, and magazine loaders and defines them as parts.

Without legal definition it's up to interpretation really.

Is a Hotchkiss style feed tray a magazine?

Back at that time we got a lot of feedback from the Antique Arms president who sit on the firearms committee.
I cannot find what he sent out (should have kept it), but things like MG belts were covered, likewise whether the ammo can that clipped on the .5 MG was a mag or not. And a few others.

I know someone who has empty 7.62 cases hanging in his shed as a display with these clips/links ,from memory about 8 of them ?
Is it illegal to have empty ammo hanging from them in the clips/links ?

These are the belts in question, note American laws noted in write up.Banned in some States.

I was assured by Arms Office that links and belts are not "part of a Machine Gun" when I tried to hand in nearly 500 links and 25 belts also AK47 mag loader and clips. I still have the clips if anyone wants them.
