This is all I can think of, add what you can:
    *Stainless barrels and synthetic stocks
    *Suppressors
*Exciting calibres like 270SSWM and 7mm08 that are somehow better than older calibres
*Impressively large magnums with muzzle breaks
    *Bolt and barrel fluting
*Tacticool scopes with huge turrets cos we are all going to shoot at 1000m
*Super amazing polymer tipped projectiles that will allow us to shoot at 1000m
*Bipods cos you need one to shoot 1000m
    *AR15s as a hunting rifle
*Carbon fibre stocks and wrapped barrels

I am sure I have forgotten some so reply to the thread and add what you can think of.
I take it you are still driving a Model T or living in a cave Massive ?

Mud tyres are probably as old as 4x4.so not a trend and neither a fashion.
Driving a 4x4 or SUV in town with big flash rims and low tyres is definitely a trend or fashion.

    For the guns:
Bigger and heavier scopes, with fat tubes and fat objectives mounted higher and higher.
The big IOR with the 40 mm tubes are the apotheosis of that trend !
    Tactical and picatinny rails everywhere!

Rifles shooting faster calibers to reach further.

All that when the average deer in nz might be shot below 100m!

But lucky enough, you can still buy an about normal rifle( ruger American, Remington or sako depending budget) , put a little leupold vx2-3 with a CDS on normal non sloppy base and rings and shoot a deer below a 350m while resting on a backpack.

No need to be trendy there.

Anything more advanced than a chucking a rock at your prey is merely a passing fad.

We're all just product whores...but when you find that magic combination of pats that make a handy practical hunting rifle, its a eureka moment.

So what is your set up?

Open sighted .303 or have you joined the trend of adding a scope to your rifle

Was fad a potentially better choice of word than trend in the original question, as I detected a touch of condescension.

    The bush pig ?

The "long range" version of any tried and true model.

Copper bullets (faded a bit in recent months)

Moly coated bullets (flash in the pan revival of 50 yo concept).

    Monte carlo stocks. (Sigh)

Extra heavy weight bullets you can't fit in your mag.

    Bull barrels

Reticles to measure your antlers. (30/30)

Wide vision scopes. (Old farts will remember these)

Illuminared reticles ( an unnamed company uses these exclusively even now as a matter of pride)

    Soft touch stocks

What a laugh now we look back !

Those new-fangled flint locks will never catch on, the tried and tested, faithful match lock is the only way........
