    mounting rock sliders

im building some rock sliders for my hilux, for those of you who have got some already how are they mounted? are they bolted through the chassis or bolted over it? if theyre through the chassis do you need spacers through it to stop it crushing the chassis when they get bent?

    cheers, ss

Most just make the mounting brackets like a clamp, so they go over/under the chassis rail. Don't need to fit crush tubes unless fitting the bolts through the chassis. Not ideal as drilling holes weakens the rail in those positions. Welding is an option as well. If an engineer signs it off, no cert is required.

hi mate, most people bend up a c shape and run a bolt up the top like these, you can weld em on but need cert and usually its done by welding on a square plate tapped for 4 bolts and then you can still unbolt em

I welded drilled and tapped 20mm plate to the chassis but I am certified welder and the vehicle was being certified for many other mods at the same time.

Any qualified engineer with welding tickets can sign it off. Getting 1 to do that is the trouble. Most won't unless they did the welding.
If in doubt easy to check with your local LVVTA certifier.

From memory the regs require an external cage to be no further out than 100mm from body

Supercharger, major front suspension modification/chassis modification etc etc

If anything needs LVVC cert everything so there is no questions from cops (not that I ever got pulled up) but mainly for insurance cos if those pricks can find an out they will so even my ride hight tire size/wheel offset was on the plate.

The same basic test is still there and applicable for the same but now if you do overhead you are gifted the other positions which IMO is a bit like "well you can drive a truck so here is your motorcycle and wheels tracks and rollers licences as well.

And it is now only valid for a maximum of 2 years instead of 5.

I don't know the number of the new one tho I have sat it many times
