Great scopes. Indestructible. But light ? - no.

I’ve got a 3.5-15 and a 5.5-20 NXS. But for a dialling 2-10x I have 3 Leupold vx5’s. A better scope for hunting. The red dot versions are a good reticle.

Have 3 of those scopes. Had an NXS for work.

Made in the same factory *Light Optical Works, but with NF you pay for the name (which is actually Lightforce, the bloke rebranded and opened a US 'factory' to win military contracts).

Everything with the NF name has a premium markup on it, scopes, mounts, hats, shirts etc.

Would be able to recommend them of they had better reticles for hunting and not target shooting in the middle of the day, but they don't.

Without illumination (carry a spare battery), you'll have difficulty seeing them in some light conditions, which is the hallmark of bad design.

Their NXS series needs to be revamped with a locking elevation turret and capped/locking windage. Tried that with the ATAC-R but then Leupold sued them for copying their CDS-L turret.

Credit to the founder, Dr. Raymond (Ray) Dennis, for the marketing, but kudos to the Japanese who got him off the ground by actually made the things!
Some of what you say is correct some not.
Sounds like you had a bad experience with something nf.
For myself, been the rough bastard I am I would be a fool to use any other brand.
There is a reason why they win military contracts.
    Rugged reliable repeatable.
Alot of scopes can do two not many three.

I’ve got a NF 2.5x10x 42 and rate it for glass and build quality. I have Khales, Swaro’s ( Z3,5 and 6), and March, to compare.

The 2.5-10x42 is an excellent choice, buy with absolute confidence.
The DigIllum is excellent and genuine low light useable. Illumination is one scope feature where you get what you pay for.
As stated already the reticle is black until the illumination is turned on, your choice of red or green.

I highly rate the nxs 2.5-10x42 must do as I own 2 of them, 600g is manageable weight even on a lite weight rifle. I’m like Andy pretty hard on my tools, dropped, drowned in creeks and rivers, bouncing off the quad bike onto bedrock turret first and it still held its zero.

Opinions on Nightforce in Real World

If the NF is 600 grams that’s pretty good and comparable with a vx5 or euro 30 mm in the 2.5 to 20 range. It just comes back to features. I find NF glass good enough. Illumination is good also. Pricing is a bit steep at $A2300-2450 is my only hand brake.

I have the nx8 2.5-20 and love it. Would like to own a nxs 2.5-10x42 for my next rifle

I can't complain about the ruggedness of my VX5. It has had two major falls in the last year onto rocks. The second one I actually threw the rifle into a stoney creek bed to save myself from ending up on my face. A bit of missing paint but held it's zero both times.

Would like to know the 'not correct' bits please.

Shot 80 deer with this setup so it's not like I had a look at one in the shop and could not afford, so decided to slag them off...(work paid )
