Thread: Warfighter Athletic gear review

I have been using this gear for the last 6 months or so, and have been thoroughly impressed with it. I thought I would share what I have been using, and how I have found it.
Disclaimer I have no affiliation with WA, and these are my personal experiences with the kit.

I bought a couple of “the company” tees about 6 months ago, and have worn them most days. So much so that my wife is thoroughly sick of them haha. They have some slight pilling but otherwise still look great, and still very comfortable.

When the tactical training sock first came out a few months ago I bought a couple of pairs. Honestly the best socks I have ever owned. Once again they are the only socks I now wear. I use them for every day use as well as running and the gym. Both pairs are still in excellent condition and truly don’t show any wear or tear. When I bought them they were a little loose, but after a week they “settled” and now fit perfectly. Made in Ashburton too which is nice to support a local business!

I bought a pair of the mission merino socks to use on the most recent hunt, and they performed perfectly. Very comfortable and not too hot. I will definitely be getting more pairs!

After having such a good run from the tees and socks I invested in some of the Commando gear to try. I haven’t had the jacket in heavy rain yet, but I stayed dry in some milder showers. The fabric did seem to wet down pretty quickly, but also dried out as if not more quickly. The jacket is comfortable and seems well appointed. My wife kept snaking my jacket so I got her one too. Sadly they don’t yet do women’s sizes, so I got her a men’s small. Still big on her, but she’s happy as she gets more coverage

I bought the short sleeved commando tee in L and found it way too tight. It did say that on the website but I didn’t realise how tight it would be! I did not like how much of my puku was on display haha! I gave that to my wife and she now uses it as a running top.

I ordered a long sleeve top in XL and that fits much better. The Commando tops are very soft and comfortable to wear, I will be getting more as hunting tops. Again I haven’t tested over long days, but the top wasn’t pongy the following day after a pretty brutal and sweaty ascent with a heavy pack on!

Finally the commando pants. They are awesome. Very comfortable and light weight. They breathe well and move in all the right ways. I wore them on the most recent hunt through tussock and #%¥+ Spaniard grass. We went up to the tops and above the snow line, at times above the knee. I did not get cold. When kneeling in the snow the cold came through of course, but they didn’t get wet. Just dust the snow off and move on. I was wearing gaitors under the pants. With the gaitors sitting down below the pants. The gaitors got wet and stayed wet where they were exposed to the snow. Lifting the pants up and where the pants were the gaitors were bone dry.

This just my experience with the brand. I think good gear needs to be shared

The jacket they do was rated by one member here. I've been wondering if their gear was any good.

Yeah I really rate there gear been using it for farm use for the last 6 months and it stands up well

I bought my wife some of their female active wear stuff, really good quality. She also steals my commando tees.

Just like Briscoes though, always wait for their stuff to come on special.

I'm the same Delphus. Have been using their gear since their inception. At first I was relatively skeptical when they released the commando jacket as I had always thought of them as lifestyle clothing wear, but having purchased the jacket on a deal, I have been using it for the last 18 months or so and I have to say, I really can't fault it.

Really lightweight, keeps you dry. Have had it in some pretty nasty downpours and just like any other jacket i've used, if you're out in that kind of weather, nothing is going to stop you getting wet. But as you mentioned, it dry's out very fast as well.

The commando pants I rate however I only wear them out and about. I wouldn't think about wearing them stalking as the fabric isn't exactly quiet when rubbing up against the bush. I would take them on the tops however.

Overall I really like the gear. I believe they really have put a lot of thought into the design and manufacture. Good gear without breaking the bank.

How’d you lads go for sizing? Is it true to NZ sizes so to speak? Or are you going a size up?

I'm 5"6 and found their lifestyle shirts I was a medium, commando shirts I am a large. Commando rain jacket I'm a medium.

It’s pretty standard sizing

Yep I found the sizing to be standard. Aside from the commando shirts as I said above

Country of manufacture ?

Mostly overseas, Ill have to check exactly where when im home later. The socks are made in Ashburton though.

So I had a look. My tshirts are “produced in the USA”, but everything else bar the socks seem to be made in Indonesia

I just purchased the jacket and pants while they were on discount. Both extremely comfortable and the jacket is very light.

Went hunting on the tops in sleet and steong winds and both held up really well. The pants stayed dry until near the end but dried very quickly.

The jacket also has a Recco tag in it, which is a nice extra little safety feature.

I agree that the pants would be no good for stalking as they're quite loud.

Disclaimer, I don't have much hunting experience so can't really compare them to other hunting gear. But at the price they were with 60% and another 25% off after that with discount code, I couldn't pass it up for my first proper hunting clothing buy. I wear the pants for everyday use too, VERY comfortable!
