    Guns and politics

Seems to me that guns are moving slower on TM than usual. For myself, I would love to buy another but don't want to be forced into having to declare all my guns as per the new regime. Could people, like me be holding off buying in the expectation that ACT will eventually force a rethink of gun rego as they have promised and make people who have declared all, feel foolish?

    You aren't the only one.
A lot of people don't have, or are holding onto their hard earned $$.

Plus its a pain with registration transferring guns.
You have to verify your already verified (via Realme) account by printing a form to take to a cop shop. FFS.

I've not bought a few rifles recently due to the whole registration thing.

I'm kinda just waiting out to see what the new Government does, but also just don't want to register earlier than I need to out of principle.
Not spending money is also not a bad thing at this point in time also.

I have my doubts whether Act will succedd in removing the register intentionally. More likely it will fall over / fail / leak and there will be an outcry over wasted money like they had in Canada.

Most people I know are doing everything they can to avoid having to register until they have to. They are law abiding people who will obey the law but will leave it as long as they can to delay it....

Te Tare Puke is running massively over-budget and Police HQ is not happy. Interesting times ahead with a Budget conscious Govt incoming as opposed to the Wastrels that just got wasted. Mitchell is no friend to gun owners and he will be signing off the new Fees regime. But it does give an opening to the McKee/Act stand alone Firearms Agency. Time will tell but I'm picking Firearms sales are down across the board predominantly because Register and a wait and see approach.

That's concerning for firearm owners, as the budget conscious government is much more likely to pass a higher percentage of costs on to us... we're seen as the user in what could become a user pays model. The stated objective of a safer NZ means that LFAOs aren't even the ultimate beneficiaries of the system, and the costs should be borne by everyone.
A solution, or at least something useful, is to record every negative interaction with the register / authority, and pass them on to Nicole Mckie with a gentle reminder of their campaign promises...

Wasting tremendous amounts of money and "being forced" to recover those costs is one of the mechanisms to eleminate legal firearm ownership.
