    155gr Amax in 300 WSM

Gidday All, currently shooting 178 ELDX in my 20" WSM. Shoots awesome but I want to have a play with the 155 gr Amax, just because I love reloading and because I want a load (phrasing) my wife can use with a bit less recoil. (new rifle for her a bit later on down the track).

I've got a tub of Superformance laying round, so will give that a shot. Has anyone had a play with this type of load? Hornady saying 3400fps with 24" barrel, would it be safe to say I'd easy be in the 3000s?

Keep you all posted if anyones interested.

    Cheers

I use them in my 308, only doing 2740fps and I've only shot one deer, at 330yds, bang flop, so they work well enough

Should have also said a mate has a few hundred of them sitting round, hence why I'm using them.

I havent loaded for WSM but would have thought superformance would be a bit slow burning for that weight class projectile?

If the idea is low recoil id be loading them down around 2700-2800 as they are very frangible and dont need more speed to work.

Superformance isn't suitable for many calibers apparently, but 300 wsm with 155 gr Amax is one of the four listings on the powder container.

I'll have a play around, see how much speed I can get without losing accuracy just out of interest, then find a slower load like you said.

Interesting you say that, I tried it with the 178 ELDX and hit pressure down at 2700 ish FPS. Obviously speed isn't everything but RE17 punches them out at over 2800 with no pressure.

Interesting......all the empty containers lying around here and I had never looked at the listings on the container!

Yea, it's quite hard case. Think there's .243, 22-250 and 300 wsm all with very light pills though.

I tried RL26 and superprofrmance both shot well with same speed but don't want to use my RL26 on others people's rifles.

I used 155 Amax in my 30/284 at 3220 out of a 28 inch barrel .I shot 2 animals with both went down with no dramas . I would caution using them at close range ,the pig i shot at 31 yards had a very large entry hole and the bullet did not pass through the chest . Given the it hit behind the shoulder and only had ribs to deal with and the pig wasn't large 80lbs ish i got away with . A if the shot isnt placed right say on a large stag or big pig hit in the shoulder it might not kill as well. I think for under 50 yards i be careful or use another bullet .

Run 2209 and don't send them down the tube at warp speed otherwise they will not perform as well as they can

I was getting 2900 fps with 155 gr Amax and 2208 out of my 26" Sako TRG and 26" Desert Tech and 2750 out my Remington Mod 700 20" LTR all 308 Win.

Drops everything just fine this Fallow was at 500 yards destroyed the chest cavity 20" LTR, I find the Amax a tad better than the 150 gr SST which I have a pile of and will use again once my Amaxe's are all used up.

    Bang flop
