Yup. But if you can get it done under warranty, I can afford to mess with stuff. Others maybe not so much.

    Oh I found this:

Thats about as good as I can get with most factory 223s for 10 shots.

I hadnt started on 10 shot groups when I got the B14 Extreme but here is a pretty (disappointing) but typical group from it

After much pissing about and having found @Stocky s modification I got it going like this:

I doubt you'd get thus sort of result with factory ammo.

Yes I'm sure it will get worked out, the disappointment will fade into something else I'm sure. There are far worse problems to have, that's for sure.

On the plus side, the blocks I have intended to use it on are closed for lambing at the moment so time is on my side for now

It is a shame in 2025 that you can buy a gun off the shelf that is so bad.
Yup simple bedding might fix some of them but thats besides for some people who have just brought there dream gun.

It's disappointing considering how nice these guns are as a set up you can just buy off the shelf. Light weight. Threaded. 700 pattern so world is your oyster for aftermarket. Set up for AI mags out of the box.

But the Bergara's 223's certainly seem to be getting a reputation.

The twist rate is a bit backward for 2025, I wonder if they just use the same buttons as they use to make their 22-250's?

Maybe is more that only crazy Kiwis are pushing 223 to propel heavy projectiles and the rest of the world/ market are still treating it as varmint cartridge.

From the "testing" I've done with two Bergara and three Howa 223's it's not projectile related. One problem is that the heavier factory load offerings are pretty much universally shite (or have been in the rifles I've tried them in).

So I have an update from the issue I had with the Begara B14 Extreme Hunter 223. I tried five different lots of ammo ranging from 55 grain to 75 grain including 65 grain Sierra game King hand loads nothing would shoot out of this rifle in under 4/6 MOA, it's not the shooter because I got a half MOA group at 200 m with my Tika 270 during the same range outing. I took the rifle back to GC Penrose where they took a look at the ammo took a look at the rifle and determined that it was definitely an issue with the rifle. It seems to be very common with Bergara especially the 223 to have these sorts of issues and ultimately I got a refund. Now I will likely end up purchasing a T3X, and take a hit on the suppressor that was purchased for the begara and the scope rail, unless anyone wants a leupold short action REM 700 rail 20 MOA and a Sonic compact 40 suppressor for 14x1

When I started this thread, I never thought it would turn into warranty chat

I'll see what the retailer comes back with but I may go the same route. Should get an update end of the week.

Buy an unthreaded T3 and have it threaded 14x1 is an option . . .

Yeah, Tikka. Ive never heard of a dud Tikka 1:8 .223. They seem to be consistent.

I dunno. There are not any Tikka 223 testfires I've come across on the web that show groups with a decent sample size of 10 shots or so. The two youtube ones I'm aware of that have were no better or worse than what I've found with Howa's and Begara's (albeit that I've had to work over 3 of the 5 to get them shooting).

But thinking on this, I would have backed a Bergara as being pretty good. Have had a close look at them myself in .223 and 22.250. The 1:9 22.250 Stoke has appealed.
