I have not used the hornady 87gr but it's heavy for caliber.
And I do use the ELD-M's in my heavy 243 and Berger's in my light 243. Lots of people use the A-max with great success.

Just remember a fallow deer is not very big. Side on the bullet has to open up within 100mm to be effective of it will just pass through.
Side on most red deer are not that big either.
A soft bullet just behind the foreleg will kill just about anything in NZ.
