Thread: 243 varmint projaectiles

Seem to recall that I have loaded the 58 gr Hornady V-max over trail boss for about 2400fps. Very effective on goats at <50 mters.
They do pass through side on and are expanding not fragmenting as they would be at 35-4000 fps.
Still if I was shooting varmints to goats at >100 mtr I would be wanting to be shooting a varmint bullet at >3200fps something 55 - 75 gr, or up the 87gr if goats or fallow or longer ranges may be encountered.

NB Trail boss under jacketed pistol bullets (1600 fps) has worked well for me on goats or short range deer, Obviously not an option in a 243.

I use to run Nosler 55gr BT's in my 243, in front of ADI 2208. Was getting 3690fps.
