Yeah I've got one. Kimber although my youngest son has adopted it.
Me too. XBolt. Great caliber.
Had one for a while was a great ultralight rifle @hillclima owns it now, bet it's still going great.
Super accurate
I had one for a few years a Winchester Extreme Weather & took it with me when we toured Australia ,took everything from foxes to Water Buffalo with it & all we have to offer here it was my go to Tahr rifle for a few years.
wow great to hear it is alive and doing well....
ah but you have std 270 now to fill the aching void...hows it going by the way???
It's almost ready.....have been busy and havent touched it till last week.
Fitted a timney trigger, bedded in flush cup for the javelin, and qd flush cups in the side of the stock for qd sling, it's back at the fiberglass repair guy getting the stock touched up, should have it back sometime next week then I have some finishing touches to make before load development, however might be one last trip to the gunsmith before load development resumes :D
what you getting done THIS TIME????
and whats this load developement thing you speak of??? my humble poohseventy just takes what she given and delivers death in spades....never been fussy rifle to load for thats for sure.
Had one in BAR, you know the rest of the story.
I have a tikka love it it’s a hammer
Had one or two in my time. Goes good
Had an A Bolt 270 WSM in Canada ,I shot a couple of Mule deer bucks with it , and the son shot a few Black Bears. Nice accurate caliber and very effective on game. Son traded it up to a X Bolt in 325 WSM.
My missus has a Weatherby Vanguard one. Very accurate with plenty of power.
I have a Ruger m77 and a savage weather warrior. Not sure why I have 2 as I can only use 1 at a time.
hey i dont have a 270WSM but i proberly shoulda.... it was a toss up with the 7 rem mag.
My first WSM was a 270 weatherby fibreguard and it was a frickn laser shooting 140gr nosler b/tips....one of those shouldve never sold it moments:XD:
Same had a Browning Bar and a Sako Finnlight both in 270 WSM a very capable and good fast killer out to 600 metres on large reds in CNI.
apparently its no longer "cool" to have such a calibre .... you gotta have the 6.5PRC :ORLY: ffs
6.5 PRC might as well have a 6.5/06 just a different dress on same
Just so happens I have a 6.5 06
As for the .270wsm. if they called it the 6.858wsm I'd be all over one like the measles
yup. struggled with it to start but a mate helped me sort a load with the 145 eldx. last animal taken with it was 540yds. love it
yea i have a Weatherby vanguard in 270 wsm running a red dot for shooting wallabies at the moment great fun using 100gn hollow points
My brother has one. I've seen it kill stuff.
Mine is a Browning x-bolt. I'll be hanging on to it for awhile, I think. Only thing it needs is a faster twist. It's pretty much limited to 150gr or less.
I have a tikka T3x cut back to 21”. Running the factory federal premium hybrid hunter 140gr ammo I’m getting 3065 FPS. Deer shot at 400 got sacked the other night
308 will do it, just need a , slower and softer, high bc projectiles 168 -178 eldm
Have heard that TTXS are a very hard projectile, when slowing at range they don't open up so well and can pencil threw.
Just a thought, correct me if I'm wrong some forum members who have experience with these?
If you go .30 mag, go big fat heavy projectiles. That's the difference. You "fire" .270 and 308 cased bullets. You "hurl" big fat heavy .30 cal mag bullets. Bullets that are hurled really really hurt.
Ive tried them all, and really like my 270wsm and use it a lot because its nicely in between and is not offensive. But of everything Ive owned and tried nothing has killed stuff like a decent weight .30 cal bullet with lots of grunt.
My favourite favourite is my 300SAUM shooting 168 grn NBT at 3100 fps. 20" barrel. Light. Great big holes. Near identical performance to the 300wsm you are considering.
I've got 7 factory 270wsm rounds left from a previous rifle free to a good home. Pickup Geraldine
Can only comment from my experience, with a 223 52g TTSX goat hit up close, petals broke off core followed threw, awesome damage
very effective, WOW
Robby T put me on to them because I wanted to use the 223 on deer.
Next Goat shot at 300m the TTXX penciled threw the goat run, hell of a job finding it.
Also had a hell of a job getting them to shoot 2 boxes 50, seemed to need to be pushed up to the lands, which didn't give me much neck bearing plus had to be hand fed. The penetration factor is always there But.
So my decision, was a heavier softer projectile doing less speed a 65g Game King.
Won't make it to the range Wednesday, bitten the bullet, getting fibre wifi installed. All the Best - Mark
Agree with Tahr, 30 cal couple of old boys at the range with 308 magnums. Reg' s, shoots real well 180g at over 3000 and quite comfortable to shoot as well, reloading dies etc. I think he will be realistic on price. Worth an ask he'll be there tomorrow.
I moved from the 270wsm to 300wsm because I read into all the hype of needing high BC projectiles to shoot anything past 300yds....funny thing is my 270wsm with 140 grainers was killing them just as dead at 600yds as my 300 with 208's....the power of marketing sucks in another one:XD::D
