I also have plenty but I don't use it anymore. Whats your round count so far on your 6.5x284 Duck Gunner? Do you find your barrel time consuming to clean?

Could be right on the max at the pressure spike as all double base go through the roof when over the max for the case.

Yep thats what i was thinking to. RL17 seems to achieve good velocities and accuracy in a lot of different cartridges but it sure has its drawbacks.

what are the draw backs? I'm using it in a wsm, seems to be accurate and fast, its all I have tried however. is it a renowned barrel burner or something?

It does eat barrels very fast if you are running high pressures, and harder on the barrel than most powders in general. I have also found it to cause a lot of carbon fouling.

To be fair its probably gained a worse rep than it should have, as most people that have used it have done so to try to achieve high velocities and thats how a lot of the barrel damage is done.

RL 22 and 25 was way too temp sensitive in my cals. I have a couple lbs of both I will flick off if anyone wants them.

I could only get to 2850 with 2213SC safely. I was trying to stay with ADI powders but went to N560 for about 75fps more, (140 Bergers) In hindsight I don't think a short barrelled 6.5x284 is any better than a 260.

Hey Red, you could always go to a 130 berger or swift and gain a bit of speed. I did get more than 3000 using 130's easily before Abe replaced the barrel, with the improved .260 and 10 grns less case capacity. I would have been happy with around 2900-2950.
If your mate isint going to stretch it beyond 500, it may be an option.
The swifts are accurate and frigging kill well around the muzzle velocities you should achieve with them out to around 700m.
Who really gives a shit about barrel life on a hunting rig anyway?
If you dont get the barrel hot you should easily achieve 1000-1200 hunting accuracy life which should be achievable out of any fast 6.5 cal.
Do what ya want! Ya will anyway.
