    Sorry everyone ... time to pull out my quote on this post ... again ...

    Hi Rodsta - there is only one way I respond to this question ... and you might've seen it before ...
    For one calibre to do a lot of different forms of deer hunting I would go with what a mate told me ...
    North Island >> .308
    South Island >> .270
    If you come from Ponsonby, Arrowtown or Torbay >> 7-08
    I have a .308 (& .243) and I would happily own any/all three of the above. Spend as much as you possibly can ... you only need one rifle for life. Spend around 60% on the rifle, therefore 40% on the scope. Mine is a Sauer & they are the bomb! Keep safe in the hills!

    Thats funny. I keep seeing 60% scope 40% rifle everywhere else on the forum.

    im going to be getting a tikka t3 with a Leupold VX1 3-9x40 lr duplex and atm its going to be a 308

    i have been told the same thing yet im spending 1200 on a gun and 450 on a scope haha

    Well it was actually 50?50 when I heard it but I have never been able to spend 50% on the scope - always seemed a little too hard to justify.
