And do you actually have experience of 40yr old powder "going wrong"?
I use old powders regularly..some of my ICI Nobel powders are closer to 60 yrs old. They are sweet, fresh and reliable. Rifle, Shotgun and Pistol.
Ball powders in particular are preferred for military use because of their longevity and stability in loaded ammo. How is it worse off in a carefully stored original container?
