Thread: Reloading bench

Gidday, weekends mission is to put up a reloading bench and setup all my gear. Whats everyone's opinions on reloading bench height. The attached photo is all I can really setup in the rental I'm in now. I like the angled braces as it keeps everything tidy. I've got 40mm ply top and 4 by 3 timber for angle braces. Top is 600 deep to the wall, which is plenty for my setup. Will probably add shelving onto wall at back of bench at some stage. Do i need to really stiffen up and brace round the press, or will the ply be stiff enough.

I'm 6 foot tall and quite like to stand when reloading. Any little tips etc. would be well appreciated.

One thing I have found is that my Lyman Gen 6 does not appreciate being shaken, which is bound to happen with the action of using a press.

I don't know what you use to dispense and weigh powder, but I suggest you have a place near your press that is separate and unaffected by vibration.

Either that or build a bench really solidly. ( I use a tv stand on castors beside the bench )

I value bench space for sorting stuff and cutting down on clutter. Build the largest one you possibly can.

Must be able to stand & sit and be comfortable with both.

That's a bloody good point, I think I'll put a small dividing gap (3-4mm) on the part of the bench with the scales. I've got Chargemaster and A&D scales, so definitely don't want any shaking.

I made my own - and its still standing (if you know me I'll understand if you call me a liar). More is more with a reloading bench. Wish I went bigger...and extra strength in the press area.

Any 708 loads there?

Brass prepped and ready and @Gerardo is kindly gifting some 140 projectiles to try too.

If you use a balance beam scale and stand to reload, mount a seperate shelf at eye level to put the scale on. Stops any variation in reading the scale if it is "eye balled" from the same position every time.

Yeah that. LED and incandescent

They don't affect my chargemaster...thought they would.

I have 3 different benches and I have yet to reach a consensus on what the ideal height is for a reloading bench. Someday I will figure it out and build my "ultimate" bench.

This is what I did. Made a small room in a corner of the garage.
