    RmmRM Load Development Question

    Hey Guys

Headed to the range this weekend with the chronograph and some loads I am developing for the 7mmRM.

Below are the results and details of the tests.

    Calibre 7mm Rem Mag
    Projectile 162gr Hornady A-Max
    Cases Winchester
    Primers Federal Large Magnum
    Powder AR2213SC

Cases neck sized and trimmed to length
    OAL 83.57mm

    Starting Load 60gr
    Max Load 64gr

Load Shot MV Ave MV Group Size Notes
    60gr 1 2659 2658 29mm Cloverleaf
    2 2658
    3 2657

    61gr 1 2705 2703 19mm Perfect cloverleaf
    2 2700
    3 2703

    62gr 1 2780 2771 28mm horizontal evenly spaced string
    2 2758
    3 2774

    63gr 1 2785 2792 40mm 2 touching, 1 flyer possible human error or velocity diff?
    2 2785
    3 2806

    64gr 1 2846 2846 42mm Pressure signs, heavy bolt lift, cratered primers
    2 2845
    3 2846

The 61 gr load produced the smallest group and most consistent MV, however the 63gr load had 2 touching with 1 flyer with a significand diff in MV.

My concern is the low velocities being produced especially with the max load showing pressure signs and should I persevere with the 63gr load or just be happy with the 61gr load at 2700fps?

Your guys input would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe you didn't have the same load in the flyer with 63gr, load up another 10 or so and try it out if it doesn't work any good then I would stick to 61.

I personally wouldnt be happy with an average 2700fps out of a 7mmRM. There are 7/08's getting that sort of velocity running the 162's.

The powder you are using is too fast, try 2217 or 2225

What rifle is it? Also how long is your barrel?

    I'm getting 2980fps out of a 24" barrel tikka using 70g of 2217. grouping about 0.55-0.6 moa

I was recommended 2213 when I started reloading and got up to 68g @ 2900 before I started getting pressure signs.

I agree 100% with Kiwi Greg, 2213sc is too fast for the 7mmRM. 2217 or 2225 are the 'go to' powders for the Rem Mag.

Agree with what's already been said with regards to 2217.
73.5 grains with 162 Amax seated 5 thou off the lands gives me 3070fps out of my sendero

Cheers guys, sorry been away from the pc, it is a S/S Weatherby Vanguard with a 24" barrel and 1:9.5 twist..

Yeah was feeling a bit disconcerted about the velocities, will get a can of 2217 this week and load up another batch.

    Appreciate the help!
