    Ugly Annealer - First Impressions

Well, I took a bit of a punt and bought an Ugly Annealer after speaking to the guys who make them. Ordered 10 days ago, and arrived on Thursday. Today I took it over to see a mate who does a huge amount of reloading and normally uses an AMP. After a little bit of fiddling around with setup we had it churning through the brass. 8 cases a minute seems to be its happy space, and it worked on everything from .222 through to 30-06 with 7.62x29, .243, 7mm08, .308 and 6.5x55 run through. Our gut feel is that it isn't as accurate as the AMP but a damn site faster - including the learning curve we annealed close to 1000 cases this afternoon. I did a bit of testing on the annealed brass and I'm very happy with the results - it was $400 well spent. I've got a few ideas for improvements and will give the manufacturer some feedback around that. Oh, my mate said that if we're going to call an AMP a 100% solution, the Ugly still gets an 85% rating.

    If it works it works!
Proof will be in the shooting. I found i can do a case in my amp in about 4-5 seconds with a couple od seconds in between loading them in/dumping hot ones in a steel bowl. Seemed plenty fast enough (not likely to get the upgrade to add the robot feeder)

How does the ugly system feed in brass?

Yeah, I'm about the same although the larger cases take a tad longer.

This week hopefully I'll get the latest software installed and then I'll use the Auto Start function - no more pushing the Start button for every case. That may speed things up a wee bit.
The downside with the AMP is the manual feeding but likewise I'm not about to purchase the AMP Mate auto feeder.

I was super anal when I first got my AMP and timed some 50 case runs.
Typical times, from start of one case, annealed, next case ready for button to be pushed -
    223 7 seconds
    6mmBR 8 seconds
    6.5x47 8.5 seconds
    308, 7.5x55 ~10 seconds
So the AMP is hardly a damn sight slower but you have to really keep up to it due to the manual feeding.
The Ugly with a big hopper feeder would be more relaxed for sure.

I had a twin burner Benchsource which was faster, but not by much and you still needed to sit over it and feed the carousel.

I am a 100% person so the amp does it for me as no guessing as science has been sorted!

Saw an Ugly in action today and very impressive it is. You need to load the hopper up first as it chews through them that fast. Without using a stopwatch, a single case went through in -about- 3.5secs.

Same here, before F/L sizing & every reload.
