For those on a budget, take a look at the Remington 783. A lot them are shooting quite well and most of their barrels are fairly straight. They just need a bit of relief in the barrel channel for a good free floating.
Savage are still good to very good even if a bit agricultural.the versions with the accustock ( aluminium insert inside stock for rigidity) are a little heavier but with a very stiff fore end.
I see Cooper has just put one up for $600 - problem solved
