So, I think I'll be retiring this rifle from PRS match duties for next year, it'll still come out for the Ultimate Hunter & the NRL Hunter - but something else will happen for the PRS series, and I'll have a proper crack at getting in the top 10. or top 30.

I'll be interested to see what you go for.
PRS has been dominated by 6mms for such a long time but that does seem to be changing.
If I were choosing a new build I think I'd go for 25cal but 6.5mm might be the safer bet.

If you'd come into the sport just a year ago, without a doubt everyone would say just stick with 6GT for PRS.

@gimp what barricade bag did you pick up form the table? Sabre tactical?

I'm a simple man. I don't really believe you can buy points. I believe that most of the points on the table are available by not making fuck-ups and by being squared away and consistent. I have 6GT dies and brass, and a 29" 6mm barrel blank.

Yip. Seems OK. Infinitely more stable than a 300gm fill schmedium

I stuck with 6.5 Creed for the same reason, have all the gear to reload and didn't think the cartridge is the reason for leaving points on the table.

Hopefully will get to a few centrefire matches next year.

4-5 bags of silica glass media from mitre 10 will change that schmedium into a really solid bag

@gimp got any more info on the nrl hunter series you talked about in your post?

Great report and summary, thanks. Having attended enough of these matches (albeit the last 3-4 years ago, and things have moved on since then) I too concluded I was wasting my time and money, but for slightly different reasons. Firstly you need to be fairly athletic to make all the shots within time, I'm a stiff uncoordinated old fart, and simply couldn't keep up. Secondly as you've found lightish "hunting" gear isn't really suitable. However the matches can still be useful for hunters. The last match I attended I resolved to focus on first shot hits on all targets, so if a stage called for 12 rounds on 4 targets, I went for 4 good shots at 4 targets. I really enjoyed it, and it was very useful at building positions and backing ones wind calls, and by my measure I did pretty well, getting about 60-80% of hits on a pretty windy day.

I think it's definitely of benefit for all hunters to shoot some matches. Maybe not the full on PRS series for the average hunter through as the match fees etc are pretty hectic, the Sparrowhawk hunter match is a good entry point

I'd love to see some sort of NRL22 like thing in NZ, but more aimed at hunters, either rimfire or centrefire.

The general gun handling skills and safety you pickup in competition would be good to see put among the general shooting population.
